Poem/Painting #11: “Watershed”

5/9/2017, 12″ x 12″ x 2 1/4″, mixed media, acrylic and metallic paint.

This painting is the last (so far) in a series of paintings completed in response to the poems of Ori Soltes with whom I have been doing this project for during the last few years.

His poem, called “Watershed” is as follows:

As the unforgiving
wind encouraged
sudden downward
explosions of newly

arriving rain
and forced
an unexpected
spiraling

of leaves—
yellowed, waiting
for this moment—

toward the earth,
I knew
that autumn

was now here
and from the look
so deep

within your eyes
that I would need
a sweater, now,

to keep me
warm.
